UPDATE  |  Roads were re-opened Monday evening following an afternoon fire in Long Beach that burned brush and trash, fire officials said.  

The fire began at about 4:30PM in a 100-square-foot area, near the connector road from the Eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway to the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, near California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).

By about 5:30PM, firefighters had a one acre triangle extinguished, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Brian Fisk said.

Debris from the heavy brush and trash on fire was also cleaned up.  

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

11/23/15 at 5:17PM | Long Beach firefighters were battling a small brush fire in Long Beach Monday afternoon which caused several road closures, authorities said.

The fire, a 100-square-foot area, started at about 4:30PM near the connector road from the Eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway to the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, near California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). 

About an hour later firefighters had one acre triangle extinguished, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Brian Fisk said. Units remained on scene as efforts continued to mop up the debris. 

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Fisk added.

Road closures include the southbound San Gabriel (605) Freeway to the Westbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway, northbound San Diego (405) Freeway to 7th Street offramp and Studebaker Road to Seventh Street.
