Due to rain that fell today and is expected to continue through the weekend, the Long Beach Water Department asks that businesses and residents shut off their irrigation systems, as rain eliminates the need for sprinklers for several days.

“As a rule of thumb, even a minimal amount of rainfall is enough to sustain all our landscaped areas for at least a week after it rains,” says Matt Lyons, Director of Conservation for the Long Beach Water Department.

Long Beach has made great strides in conservation since a water shortage emergency was declared in September.  The city has set several records for low water usage in the last few months, and officials have applauded the efforts of residents who cut down on personal consumption.
