A man is in critical condition Sunday after an early-evening stabbing at a Second Street restaurant closed down portions of the busy street.

At about 6:30PM, witnesses said that a fight broke out between two patrons of Sushi on Fire and it spilled onto the street where a stabbing occurred. One witness posted on their Facebook page saying that the suspect was harassing little kids in the restaurant and the victim had tried to intervene.

As soon as the stabbing began, patrons of the restaurant as well as Shannon’s Bayshore Saloon next door jumped onto the suspect and held him until police came.

Police quickly arrested the suspect, Robert Cambell, 30, of Long Beach and booked him for assault with a deadly weapon. The victim, who remains unidentified, was taken to the hospital in critical condition according to Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department.

A portion of Second Street was closed while the incident was being investigated. It was reopened before midnight.
