Current Long Beach Police Chief and Los Angeles County Sheriff contender Jim McDonnell has scored the endorsement of the Peace Officers Research Organization of California.
The endorsement from the largest public safety organization in the state—consisting of 67,000 officers and deputies across 900 sub-organizations—follows his endorsements from the Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs Association and the California Police Chiefs Association.
McDonnell faces retired Undersheriff Paul Tanaka following the statewide primary election on June 3, where McDonnell took a vast lead in the race. McDonnell received 48.9% of the vote—or 241,319 votes—just shy of the 50% plus one required to win. Tanaka received 14.8% of the vote, or 73,209 votes.
The two will face off with one another November 4.
