A structure fire in Long Beach’s North Alamitos Beach neighborhood Tuesday resulted in the displacement of a family and the death of a cat, according to the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD).
LBFD Spokesperson Jake Heflin said the firefighters were dispatched at 11:34AM Tuesday morning regarding smoke leaking from an outside window of an apartment on the 500 block of Cerritos Avenue, arriving to the scene by 11:38AM. The fire was extinguished at 11:57AM, with 25 firefighters on scene.
According to Heflin, five children aged 3 to 14 years-old, were displaced, along with their mother. The family was not home at the time of the incident.
The Long Beach Red Cross was requested and the family received a Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) Card, which aims to provide short-term relief for those displaced by fire or natural disaster, according to the LBFD.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
