Seth Gomes, 33, was charged today with murder and other counts stemming from the shooting death of another man in Long Beach less than a week before Christmas.

Gomes is facing one count each of murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful possession of ammunition, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

He is set to be arraigned Jan. 25 at the Long Beach courthouse.

Gomes was arrested Monday by Long Beach police near the 3800 block of Long Beach Boulevard in connection with the Dec. 20 death of Kevin Magana.

The 30-year-old victim died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to records from the coroner’s office.

Police said officers were dispatched at about 5:15 a.m. Dec. 20 to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard to assist the Long Beach Fire Department involving an injured person.

Officers found Magana off the roadway near the intersection of 49th Street and Del Amo Boulevard, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motive for the killing is still unknown.

Gomes remains behind bars in lieu of just over $3 million bail.
