6:00am | According to a recent announcement from the California Department of Education, three Long Beach Unified School District elementary schools were classified as Distinguished Schools this year. To be appropriately titled as such, the school must meet a certain benchmark in standard testing scores amongst its students; it does not include regular classroom academics.

Kettering Classical Elementary, Emerson Parkside Academy Charter, and Roosevelt Elementary were the schools honored.

The surrounding area also brought about honors, including: Carver Academy, Helen Wittmann Elementary, John F. Kennedy Elementary, and Stowers Magnet School of International Studies of ABC Unified School District; Esther Lindstrom Elementary of Bellflower Unified School District; and Eastwood Elementary and Julia B. Morrison Elementary of Norwalk-La Mirada Unified respectively.
