The heat recorded today was truly a phenomenon: A high of 92 degrees in Long Beach officially broke the same-day record for heat, set in 1991, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS said the old record was 86 degrees, the highest temperature on record until today.

Records were set in downtown Los Angeles as well, with 89 degrees beating the old record of 85 degrees.

Is it fitting that today is also national pancake day? Perhaps you can try to use that blacktop to cook yourself that breakfast delicacy. #Nomnom

A previous version of this story listed the high temperature as 88 degrees. The NWS has since updated the high temperatures of the day.
