A 70-year-old women hit by a car while crossing Pine Avenue near the Long Beach Convention Center is expected to recover after suffering a fractured knee and other injuries.

The victim, Franca Ferraro, and her daughter, Giovanna Ferraro, who owns Groundwork Fitness, were leaving a charity event at the convention center when the collision occurred at 11 p.m. Dec. 13 near Pine Avenue and Bay Street.

Police said Tuesday that the two women were in a crosswalk when the 70-year-old was struck by a car driven by a woman, who stopped at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

The victim was transported to the hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel and treated for injuries to her lower torso, police said.

The car was turning northbound on Pine Avenue when the woman was hit. Both women were in the crosswalk.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.

Giovanna Ferraro posted a picture of her mother 30 minutes before the collision.

“My mother is the strongest woman I know… and she’ll prove it over the next 6 months,” she wrote.
