Current commissioners Harry Saltzgaver and Arthur (Art) Levine were officially reappointed to the Board of Water Commissioners for five-year-terms by the city council on Tuesday, the Long Beach Water Department (LBWD) announced Wednesday.

Originally appointed by former mayor Bob Foster, the commissioners’ reappointment was first announced by Mayor Robert Garcia last month.

“These commissioners have done a great job, and reappointing them will provide both stability and consistency to our Water Department,” said Garcia in a statement. “I want to thank them for their outstanding service.”

Saltzgaver was first appointed to the board in 2012, and has been the Executive Editor of Gazette Newspapers since 1992. He’s a member of the Long Beach Grand Prix Foundation board and served the Long Beach Parks and Recreation Commission for 11 years.

Levine was first appointed to the board in 2012, and is the current host of the cable program Straight Talk and served as a faculty member at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) for 40 years. He is currently retired and is a professor emeritus of Ethics and Legal Studies at CSULB.
