A father and son were displaced after a fire damaged the back of their Long Beach home early Sunday morning, authorities announced.

Long Beach firefighters were dispatched to the 2600 block of Deforest Avenue at 12:15AM on Sunday, August 9, after the homeowner—a 50-year-old man—called 9-1-1 when he came home and found his bedroom on fire, according to a press release.

Fire units arrived at 12:19AM and reported light smoke from the front of the single-story, three-bedroom home, with a significant fire visible in the rear of the structure, fire officials said.

While firefighters suppressed the house fire, a secondary fire was ignited in the backyard of a neighboring home from the arcing power lines. Fire crews extinguished that fire while remaining on stand-by until Edison was able to secure the power.

The house fire was knocked down at 12:27AM.

The location of the owner’s 25-year-old son was unknown at the time of the fire.

After a primary and secondary search of the residence was completed, an all clear was given at 12:35AM, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters issued a $100 SAVE card to the residents. Red Cross was offered but the family had other supportive measures in place, according to authorities.

At the height of the fire, 27 firefighters were assigned to the incident.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
