Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia got a few seconds in the national spotlight as one of 17 “rising stars” selected to speak during Tuesday night’s Democratic National Convention.
Garcia joined other young leaders across the nation, including former Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, Rep. Conor Lamb, D-Pennsylvania, and Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, for the speech during the 6 p.m. hour of Tuesday’s schedule.
The leaders touched issues ranging from health care to the struggles of the middle class and the growing diversity in the Democratic Party.
“….we’re facing the biggest economic and health crisis in generations because our president didn’t and still doesn’t have a plan,” Garcia said in the segment. “You deserve more than the constant chaos that Donald Trump delivers.”
Jill Biden, wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, was the headliner on Tuesday.
Garcia’s selection for the prominent speech comes in the midst of a tumultuous few weeks that included him losing both his mother and stepfather to COVID-19.
