A human trafficking investigation in Long Beach last month resulted in the arrest of a man, along with the rescue of a woman and girl, according to police.

The investigation began on July 9, when officers were called to the area of 67th Street and Long Beach Boulevard following a report of a person in distress, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

There, officers found a girl and notified detectives that she was possibly the victim of human trafficking, police said.

Through their investigation, detectives learned that the girl had been driven to Los Angeles by her trafficker and forced into sex work, police said.

During this time, she was physically and sexually assaulted before later being transported to Long Beach to continue working there, according to police.

Authorities eventually identified a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest, police said.

On July 26, detectives responded to the suspect’s home in Gardena and served a search warrant, according to authorities.

While serving the search warrant at the home, police located another woman who was also being forced into sex work, according to police.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Calvin Lane, was taken into custody that day on suspicion of human trafficking of a minor with violence and pimping of an adult, according to authorities.

He has since been charged with one count each of human sex trafficking of a minor with violence and pimping of an adult. He remains jailed in lieu of $1.1 million bail, arrest records show.

The minor, meanwhile, has since been released into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services, police said. The adult victim was offered services by police department personnel.
