Police have released footage of a motorist fleeing Tuesday morning after apparently hitting an elderly pedestrian who later died from her injuries in Long Beach, authorities said.
The victim has been identified as 78-year-old Jackie Morris of Long Beach.
The collision happened just before 6:00AM on Tuesday, January 24 near Redondo Avenue and 7th Street.
A motorist was traveling in the No. 1 lane on Redondo Avenue when the driver struck Morris, who was pushing a shopping cart and attempting to cross Redondo Avenue mid-block, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
The driver stopped briefly after the crash and then sped away northbound on Redondo Avenue, past 7th Street.
Arriving officers found Morris alert and lying in the roadway on the 600 block of Redondo Avenue. She was transported by paramedics in critical condition to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Police recovered footage of the incident with the help of a local business owner and others which may help find the outstanding vehicle, officials stated.
The vehicle may be a 2013 to 2015 silver four-door Nissan Sentra sedan, possibly with tinted windows. It may likely have minor to moderate front-end damage and is missing the driver’s side mirror.
“The investigation remains ongoing and detectives are hopeful that by releasing video and photos, someone who recognizes the vehicle or was in the area of 7th Street and Redondo at the time of the incident will come forward,” the release stated.

1/24/17 at 6:02PM | Thanks to a Long Beach business owner, police say they have video of the suspect vehicle involved in a hit-and-run this morning that left a woman critically wounded, authorities said.
While officials have not released any video or photos related to the investigation, the vehicle is described as a silver, four-door compact car, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.
Authorities have also identified the victim as a 78-year-old Long Beach resident.
The woman was crossing Redondo Avenue, outside of the crosswalk, Tuesday morning when she was struck by a motorist traveling north on Redondo Avenue, Arrona said. The driver fled before officers arrived.
Detectives are hopeful a video provided by a business owner will help further the investigation.

The collision happened at about 6:00AM on the 600 block of Redondo Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.
The driver was traveling north on Redondo Avenue and fled the scene before police arrived.
When officers arrived, they found the woman in the roadway with severe injuries, Arrona said. She was transported by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel to a local hospital in critical condition.
The suspect vehicle is described as a small compact car.
Redondo Avenue, between 6th and 7th streets, was closed this morning while Collision Investigation detectives investigated the incident.
No additional information was available at this time.
