MEN’S GOLF: Vikings Finish Third at Regionals to Qualify for State Championships
The Long Beach City College men’s golf team shot a two-round 770 to finish in third place out of 10 teams at the 2011 Southern California Regional Championships on Monday at the Bermuda Dunes Country Club. With their top-four finish, the Vikings automatically qualify for next week’s State Championships.
Dirtbags Drop High-scoring Affair at No.6 Arizona State 17-9
The Dirtbags were swept in a series for the first time all season, as Long Beach State lost an early lead to Arizona State and ultimately fell 17-9 on Sunday afternoon. Brennan Metzger was 4-for-4 with a triple on Sunday.

Matt Duffy and Jeff McNeil each doubled for Long Beach State, Duffy finishing with three hits and McNeil, two, but No. 6 Arizona State scored early and often in a 9-2 defeat on Saturday night.
Johnson Leads Dirtbags Past San Diego State in 12 Innings
It wasn’t always pretty. Instead, it was grind-it-out, pitch-by-pitch baseball as the Dirtbags improved to 5-0 in an extra innings game Tuesday, beating San Diego State 7-6 in 12 innings. Matt Johnson earned the win, striking out six over the final three innings for Long Beach State.

Long Beach State Junior Anais Dallara has been named First-Team All-Big West in both singles and doubles for women’s tennis, highlighting five 49ers that earned first or second-team honors as voted on by the coaches and announced by the Big West.

Senior goaltender Kristen Stragier made 14 saves for No. 16 Long Beach State, and Krizia Cerda scored a pair fourth-quarter goals Friday as the 49ers upset No. 14 UC Santa Barbara in the host pool in the opening round of the Big West Tournament 4-3.
