Big West Conference Player of the Week Larry Anderson and the Long Beach State 49ers return home after more than one month to host the Northridge Matadors in the 49ers’ first home game of the conference season.

It could be an up and down year for the reloading Long Beach State men’s volleyball team, but head coach Any Read’s team showed no indication of that on Monday night when they swept visiting Alberta in the final exhibition match of the season at the Walter Pyramid.

Long Beach State baseball, volleyball and track are all right around the corner, while a few teams – like men’s basketball – are off to a hot start in conference play.

The Long Beach State 49ers begin their conference season with a 2-0 record after defeating Cal Poly SLO on the road by a 69-53 score last night, behind 22 points and 9 rebounds from junior T.J. Robinson and stellar defense.

Junior guard Larry Anderson wasn’t even expected to play, but returned after missing five games with a broken hand to score 25 points on 9-10 shooting with 8 rebounds.

The 49ers could really use an opportunity to start the Big West Conference season off with a confidence-builder. Instead, they get Preseason Conference Champion UC Santa Barbara. On the road.
