As Metro Los Angeles begins the formal transition of the soon-to-not-exist Blue Line into the soon-to-exist A Line, that means changing the hundreds of signs—over 300 to be more precise—which direct transiters to the nation’s most ridden light rail.
So they’re having an auction.
Come Thursday, Oct. 24, Union Station’s historic ticketing hall will become home to the Metro Blue Line Celebration and Vintage Sign Auction event, from 5 to 7 p.m. as well as live online for those unable to attend the actual auction.
“Participants will be able to preview the signs online at the link above or in person at Union Station from 3 to 5 p.m. on the day of the event,” said Steve Hymon of Metro. “The event at Union Station will include a musical performance by Maria de la Vega & the Wayward Five, themed refreshments and information tables from a variety of Metro departments including Metro Arts and Design and Metro Sustainability, along with information about Metro’s line renaming project and upcoming A Line reopening events.”
Winning bidders are responsible for picking up their signs from the Ticketing Hall by 10 a.m. on Friday, October 25th or arranging and paying for shipping.
