There is something extraordinarily affable about Mikey—always Mikey, never Mike—Bolts. Perhaps it is his charm or perhaps it is his talent—either way, the Long Beacher has quickly amassed millions of hits on his YouTube channel mimicking the voices of Family Guy characters set to popular tunes.

MikeyBoltIt would be safe to say Bolts specifically geared his talents toward the idea of appropriating pop songs with Family Guy voices. After all, he does a damn good Stewie impression. So good in fact, he scored a win with Fox’s “I Am Stewie” contest last year for his uncanny Stewie vocals. The result? A hangout sesh with the cast of Family Guy and an appearance as Stewie on an episode.

Not bad for a 22-year-old who is majoring in journalism at Cal State Long Beach.

“I’ve had the idea that I’ve wanted to do that for a while—sing songs in Family Guy voice,” Bolts said, “and I just really like the song ‘Timber’ by Pitbull and Ke$ha—so I covered it with those characters. And to be honest: I was really nervous to upload it.”

The fact that the Sacramento native overrode his nervousness proved fruitful: his rendition of the hit pop track has amassed 2.3 million views in a few months (and it keeps ticking up).

His popularity—over half a million subscribers to his YouTube channel and a Facebook following of over 12K—is not something he takes lightly. The humble entertainer becomes even more affable beyond his comedic talent given he is using his newfound following to help fund breast cancer research.

“My grandmother passed away from breast cancer and I really wanted to do something that would make a significant difference,” Bolts said. “And that’s where the Susan G. Komen Foundation comes in.”

Bolts has pledged to raise some $5K for the breast cancer research institution—by daring himself through Darelicious. Darelicious is the more entertaining version of Kickstarter, where people can dare people to do things should they reach a certain goal. In the case of Bolts, should he raise the $5K, he will jump out of a plane. In a Power Ranger suit.

“I am terrified of heights,” Bolts said. “The thought terrifies me—but it’s for an amazing cause. Plus I’m going to be Tommy, the white Power Ranger, and fulfill my childhood dream of being Tommy… My Dad was so nervous about it that he told me the other night, ‘If you do it, I do it.’ So for the first time in my life, I got to ask my dad, ‘Which Power Ranger do you want to be?’”

The father-son team, should Bolts reach his goal, will jump out of the plane while being filmed, with the video hopefully hitting the YouTube waves within the coming weeks.

As of now, Bolts has hit over a quarter of his pledge—as of this writing, he stands at $1,895 of his $5K goal—and has 17 days left to reach his goal.

“It’s not about the dare at the end of the day—it’s about making a difference,” Bolts said.

Meanwhile, he will continue doing the most epic of Stewie impressions while entertaining millions—and ultimately hopes he can eventually do some of his own music while juggling the last few credits of his education.

“I like doing impressions and those are the types of videos that people just love to watch,” Bolts said. “Quality impressions are hard to find, so I want to keep that going but I’ve always liked doing music. So I am thinking of about doing my own original songs… But who knows? The future is open.”
