Two people were seriously injured during a fire at a sign making business in the Wrigley area, late Sunday morning, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Brian Fisk.

At 11:55 a.m., LBFD arrived at Wilson Signs on Willow Avenue between Oregon and Golden avenues with reports of “heavy fires” coming from the business, Fisk said. LBFD soon added resources and firefighters to fight the blaze and were able to control the fire within about 20 minutes, he said.

Although the business was closed, people were inside at the time and some of them were burned, he said, though the total number of those burned by the fire is unknown at this time, he said. Two people were transported to local hospitals in serious condition, Fisk said.

The LBFD also rescued an injured hedgehog and handed it off to the city’s animal control department, he said. An Animal Care Services representative said that the hedgehog is currently under the care of an animal control officer.

The LBFD is currently investigating the cause of the fire, Fisk said.
