A 34-year-old Long Beach man was arrested early Sunday for a DUI after he crashed a truck into a garage, almost causing a potential explosion, officials said.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers responded to the area of 10th St. and Gladys Ave. around 12:37AM regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a building, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

A preliminary investigation found that a mid-size truck, driven by Baudelio Zuniga Rodriguez of Long Beach, went through a yard and into a side wall of a garage that had been converted into business. The collision damaged a gas main that caused a gas leak.

As a precaution, area residents were evacuated and the Long Beach Fire Department shut off the gas main and turned off electricity to the location. The Long Beach Gas Department and City Building Inspector also responded and the residence was cleared for occupancy, but not the garage/business.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked for a DUI, Arrona said, and no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available. We will update the story as we learn more.
