A man was shot to death while sitting in his car in North Long Beach Friday night, and police say they are still looking for the gunman.

The shooting happened sometime around 8:32 p.m. in the 5500 block of Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

When officers got to the scene Long Beach Fire Department personnel were already there treating the victim who was on the ground near his vehicle, the LBPD said. He had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, police said.

Despite efforts by the LBFD, the victim died at the scene, police said.

Detectives later discovered that the victim was sitting on the driver’s side of his car when he was shot by an unknown suspect, the LBPD said. The suspect then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

The coroner’s office is working to identify the victim and notify his next of kin, police said.

“Information is limited at this time,” according to police, who have yet to determine a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Det. Donald Collier or Det. Leticia Gamboa at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers.
