With little information to go off of in a recent shooting, detectives are turning to the public for help finding whoever wounded a man in North Long Beach last week.
Today, they asked anyone with information about the crime to come forward with leads.
Long Beach police said they were first alerted to the shooting when they were called to a local hospital at 8 a.m. July 31.
They talked to a victim who told them he was driving in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Artesia Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m. when he was shot at and hit in his upper body. Police originally thought the shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. in a slightly different area.
After being hit, the man drove himself to the hospital, according to the LBPD.
Police said they found what looked like bullet impact on the victim’s vehicle but couldn’t find evidence of a shooting in the area it reportedly happened.
“Based on their preliminary investigation, detectives believe the suspect(s) involved in this incident was driving a dark-colored vehicle,” police said. “A description of the suspect(s) and the motive for this shooting is currently unknown.”
Police sent out a news release today to try to get more information on the suspect, police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.
Detectives are hoping that anyone who was in that area at that time and saw something will speak up, De Prez said.
Police asked anyone with info to contact Det. Chris Valdez at 562-570-7370 or police dispatch at 562-435-6711. Anonymous tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
