A Monday afternoon shooting left a 16-year-old boy wounded near the Michelle Obama Library in North Long Beach, police said.

Officers arrived at the 5800 block of Atlantic Avenue near the Michelle Obama Library at about 2:15 p.m. where they found the boy with a gunshot wound to his lower body, police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the non-life-threatening wound.

Officers checked the area to ensure there were no additional victims, De Prez said.

Police do not have a suspect description or a reason for the shooting yet, but gang detectives are investigating, she said.

This follows multiple shootings over the weekend, including one that killed a man Sunday night about a half-mile from this incident, near South Street and Orange Avenue.
