Long Beach City College officially unveiled its $6.15M new Kinesiology and Fitness Center Tuesday, following a soft opening to students when the semester started.

The building—a glass-and-concrete structure that reflects the contemporary feel of the Pacific Coast Campus while maintaining little bits of its original art deco facade—is part of a larger renovation of five core buildings that stretch along the quad (pictured below).

Building CC, originally constructed in 1935 as part of a junior high school cafeteria, underwent a two-year renovation with Measure E Bond funds. The point was simple and direct: to provide students access to fitness and cardio spaces.

The 7,000 square-foot facility houses some $100,000 in equipment, including a lateral carver machine that is only one of seven in the nation. This equipment is intended to not just benefit the average student, but enhance the 700 enrolled in the college’s kinesiology program.

The Kinesiology & Fitness Center is located at 1305 E. Pacific Coast Highway in the north courtyard of the Pacific Coast LBCC Campus.
