Firefighters were working to fully extinguish a third-alarm fire today in a commercial building housing an e-commerce storage and shipping business in Los Alamitos.

The fire was reported at 5:31 a.m. in the single-story building in the 10800 block of Kyle Street, near Catalina Street, said Capt. Sean Doran of the Orange County FireAuthority.

The flames burned through the roof of the building, and firefighters went into a defensive mode, working to prevent the fire from spreading to other structures, Doran said. Footage from KTLA showed heavy flames coming from the top of the building, sending thick, black smoke into the air.

The business houses an e-commerce storage and shipping business that deals “predominantly in books,” Doran said.

Personnel from the Long BeachFire Department were sent to assist, Doran said.

Firefighters gained the upper hand on the fire after a couple of hours, and commanders began releasing crews from the scene, but the effort was continuing to fully extinguish the interior flames, Doran said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
