APLA Health & Wellness (APLAHW) recently announced that their new Long Beach Health Center is now offering free and low-cost behavioral/mental health services, in addition to primary medical care, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) counseling and management, HIV testing and STD screening and treatment and Health insurance enrollment assistance.

The services include individual, couples and group counseling, as well as substance abuse counseling, all of which are available for free or on a sliding scale for low-income clients, according to the release.

While all services are accessible to anyone, the Long Beach Health Center aims to provide care to the LGBT community.

“Well-being includes mental health as well as physical,” said APLA Health & Wellness CEO Craig E. Thompson in a statement. “By providing counseling services to our clients we are better able to serve the specific health concerns faced by the LGBT community, which include higher rates of depression and anxiety. ”

Alongside the now-available behavioral services, the center offers primary medical care, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) counseling and management, HIV testing, STD screening and treatment and health insurance enrollment assistance, according to the announcement.

Currently underway at the Long Beach Health Center is the final phase of construction to add a four-chair dental clinic and additional medical exam rooms. Once complete, the center will stand as a 7,000-square-foot space and be able to accommodate more than 5,000 patients annually.

The Long Beach Health Center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00AM to 12:00PM and 1:00PM to 5:00PM. All services are available in English or Spanish.
