A homeless man was hospitalized Thursday morning after being struck by gunfire while sleeping in his car near Cesar Chavez Park, according to authorities.
The shooting was reported just after 3:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Golden Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police say the man was asleep inside his vehicle when someone opened fire at it, striking him in the lower body. The suspect then fled the scene, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and then transported the man to a local hospital, police said, adding that his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
At this time no suspect information is known, according to police, and motive for the shooting is remains under investigation.
