A motorist who led authorities on a mostly slow-speed pursuit in an allegedly stolen van was taken into custody today in Redondo Beach.

The van was reported stolen out of Long Beach, a California Highway Patrol officer told KTLA5.

Authorities began pursuing the suspect in downtown Los Angeles, with the chase eventually spilling onto streets in the South Bay.

Moving at slow speeds with several CHP units in pursuit, the suspect took a circuitous route through Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, then back into Redondo Beach.

The driver weaved through small streets near the Redondo Beach Pier and appeared to become trapped on a one-way street near the ocean. The suspect then jumped out of the van and attempted to flee on foot, but he was quickly apprehended by multiple CHP officers who were close behind.
