A man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a hit-and-run crash in West Covina that left a woman dead was in custody today.
At about 6:58 a.m. Sunday, Long Beach Police officers responded to the area of Fourth Street and Park Avenue regarding a reported traffic collision.
Carlo Adrian Navarro, who was 20 at the time of the crash, could be sentenced to a maximum of 45 years to life in prison.
Police say 57-year-old Karena Testman Benskin was responsible for crashing her vehicle into the garage of Fire Station 2 at around 6:39 p.m. in the 1600 block of E. Third Street.
A jury will now have to decide whether the 20-year-old driver committed murder when he ran over a 3-year-old boy and his parents while they trick-or-treated.
It’s the second time someone’s hit the Seal Beach restaurant in less than a year. This time, the wreck left two people hospitalized, police said.
The LBPD says the machine was still functional and accurate despite failing internal diagnostics.
