The shooting appeared to have occurred as the man struggled with two men during a robbery, although that has not been confirmed, police said.
The shooting was sparked by a gang-related argument, according to police. The bystander who was wounded wasn’t involved at all, they said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
“I just hope somebody comes forward,” Rudy said. “Me and my kids and my lady are really hurting.”
