At a meeting last night, LBUSD board members signaled there will be a deep debate over how to move forward after Mona Rodriguez’s death.
The mayor previously called Mona Rodriguez’s death “horrific and tragic.” On Thursday, he went a step further.
The school board’s unanimous decision to fire the officer days after the shooting was “the right thing to do,” Superintendent Jill Baker said.
Mona Rodriguez stopped breathing at 5:14 p.m. Tuesday after her organs were removed, according to the family’s attorney.
He worked short stints as a police officer in Los Alamitos and Sierra Madre shortly before becoming a Long Beach Unified school safety officer.
“What kind of community are we creating if we’re slaying our children,” one activist said.
