Power outages in Bixby Knolls area leave nearly 1,000 customers in the dark

A driver crashed into a power pole near Heartwell Park Friday evening, prompting a power outage in the area and a street closure for a few hours.
The cause of the outage is still under investigation, Southern California Edison spokeswoman Susan Cox said.
According to SCE officials, a total of 2,763 customers were without power at one point.
PCH was briefly shut down in both directions between Redondo Avenue and the Traffic Circle while crews worked to repair the equipment.
The outage started just before 11 a.m. with “equipment problems,” according SoCal Edison spokeswoman Mary Ann Milbourn.
Even the Lakewood Sheriff’s station lost power for a while after the crash took out a utility pole near Bellflower Boulevard and Arbor Road.
Residents in parts of Signal Hill, Cal Heights and Bixby Knolls woke up Saturday morning to a power outage, starting around 7:45 a.m.
