Long Beach to resume utility shutoffs in August for customers with unpaid bills

Before shutting off any services, the Utilities Department says it will launch a multi-front information campaign to let customers know that they’re behind on their payments in an effort to get them caught up on their bills or get them on a payment plan.

Developer blames alleged city glitch for stymying proposal to turn Fire Station 9 into affordable housing

The proposal would convert the inside of the former station into three two-bedroom apartments with the back of the station possibly being left open as a community space. The units would be reserved for people living in the city who need time to save up money to move onto more market-rate units or even purchase a home.
