Sunday’s ceremonies at Stearns Champions Park in East Long Beach included a guest appearance from the Long Beach Fire Department, which raised an American flag from a ladder truck for the National Anthem.
The program will offer a free basketball academy to 25 youth between the ages of 11-18, along with providing reading-comprehension help and mentorship.
Jose Luis Silva, better known as “Coach Louie,” said COVID-19 has kept his youth football nonprofit from fundraising for gear on its own.
“She became their little good luck charm,” said Lyndsey’s mother, Lynette Ingram. “I like to say she’s the dugout manager. She gets the bats, helps do the lineup and bosses the boys around.”
He’s not only forcing Nelson Academy to buy a bigger trophy case, he’s mentoring kids in the heart of the city.
