Eighth District Councilman Al Austin is holding a public safety town hall for Bixby Knolls residents this Tuesday to address a surge in crime in the area as well as the closure of the neighborhood’s fire station.
The town hall is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. at the Expo Arts Center, 4321 Atlantic Ave.
Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna will discuss the latest public safety incidents, including a shooting and pair of robberies in recent weeks.
In one incident, a man was shot while sitting in a parked car near a shopping center. Days later, three masked suspects armed with guns robbed a T-Mobile store. About a week after that, a Marshalls employee was cut while trying to prevent a pair from stealing clothes.
Long Beach Fire Chief Xavier Espino will talk about the recent closure of Fire Station 9, which services the Bixby Knolls area, after mold was discovered in June.
“They will provide facts, updates, and take community questions regarding Fire Station 9 and recent public safety incidents,” Austin said in a Facebook post.
