His Ford truck left the roadway on Angeles Forest Highway and traveled down a dirt embankment before crashing into a mountainside, the CHP said.
The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. when the driver went through the light at Second Street and Park Avenue, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.
Helicopter footage from KCAL 9 showed a smashed glass doorway and a car up on the sidewalk.
A California Highway Patrol sergeant who collided with a raised concrete median on the 405 Freeway was is in stable condition after being taken to the hospital.
The building was evacuated and the woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Two pedestrians and the deputy suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, the sheriff’s department said.
