Steve Lowery began his journalism career at the Los Angeles Times, where he planned to spend his entire career. God, as usual, laughed at his plans and he has since written for The National, the L.A. Daily News, the Press-Telegram, New Times LA, the District and the OC Weekly. He is the Arts & Culture Editor for the Post, overseeing the Hi-lo. Though you’ll never meet a nicer guy, he has, during his career, raised the hackles of Rams running back Eric Dickerson, who spit a tuna fish sandwich in his face; Reggie Jackson who threatened him with a baseball bat (just because Lowery asked him if he was earning his money); and various calamitous threats from volleyball pro Gabby Reece and Dr. Laura Schlessinger—the latter two just for rubbing them the wrong way. Does this make Lowery a hero? That’s a question for future historians. Lowery lives in fear in Hermosa Beach. He has two grown children, Jackson, 25, and Madison, 28.
