The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer free meals to Long Beach children from June 21 until Aug. 27.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 1650 W. Ninth St. in West Long Beach, volunteers will give out boxes of groceries to families affected by the economic challenges of COVID-19.
The food distribution event starts at 11 a.m. at Admiral Kidd Park. Those who plan to attend must RSVP for a slot first.
From 9 a.m. to noon, those in need will can get boxes of free food at 1650 W. Ninth St. near the Pier B rail between Santa Fe and Canal avenues.
Local nonprofits, city organizations and community activists are hosting various food and toy giveaways in Long Beach starting Thursday, throughout the weekend and early next week.
On Sunday, Corona said he and local partners and sponsors gave out bags and boxes of items including food, diapers, snacks and, of course, toys to 360 families, including 900 children in those families.
One distribution is scheduled for Wednesday morning at Veterans Memorial Stadium and another is scheduled for Saturday morning in Carmelitos.
There are no eligibility requirements. Masks or face coverings are mandatory.
The giveaway is first-come-first-serve and kicks off at 8 a.m. outside the Ricardo Nursery located at 6850 Atlantic Ave.
The food distribution event will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday morning at Cabrillo High School.
