For two years, a group of Long Beach students has been pushing the school board to adopt a zero-emissions policy. Their goal is now in sight.
Superintendent Jill Baker said the district did everything it could to plan for the return of students after their education was interrupted by a global pandemic. “But it wasn’t enough,” she said, adding this past school year was “rocky.”
Even during the break, seven campuses will offer free lunches to all children aged 1 to 18 at no charge, with no documentation required.
“Long Beach is very strong in the physical education and sport world,” said Sarah Savala, who was honored for her work at Marshall Academy for the Arts.
The incident happened on Monday when Lakewood High students staged a walkout in support of sexual assault survivors.
Police said a school safety officer shot an 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in a gray sedan near Millikan High School.
Wednesday’s 5 p.m. meeting of the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education will take place remotely via Zoom, instead of in person at district headquarters, the LBUSD announced Monday.
Since some in-person activities resumed on Aug 21, students and staff of five programs led by the Long Beach Unified School District have been asked to quarantine after potential exposure to coronavirus.
The district did not say who or how many people at the school tested positive for the virus, citing confidentiality requirements.
