Long Beach police said there does not appear to be any signs of foul play, but are waiting for an autopsy from the coroner.
The man was found near the water line at about 2:10 p.m., police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.
Homicide detectives responded and coroner’s personnel were summoned to assist in the investigation into how the two died, Zabel said.

The girl’s body was found face-down in bushes by a passerby, according to reports from the scene.
Investigators are trying to retrace the steps of Brandon Atchley, whose body was found last week in Seal Beach.
It’s unclear at this point how the man died or if there was any foul play involved, but homicide detectives were investigating, police said.
Someone first reported spotting the man in the water around noon. Rescuers quickly determine he was dead.
The man’s body was found Saturday night in an RV just north of the 91 Freeway, but his death was natural, according to the coroner’s office.
“An officer observed a trash can fire and when he went to extinguish it he observed human legs,” a police official said.
