“He would always joke around,” said 21-year-old Alexander Cruz, who had been friends with Evan William Davis since the two were in second grade. “No matter what the situation was, he would always find a way to make people laugh.”
Police said a woman was driving eastbound on Anaheim Street when the pedestrian, a man, walked into the roadway.
Paramedics transported two people to local hospitals, authorities said.
The Long Beach Fire Department transported the man to a local hospital were he later died.
A driver crashed into a power pole near Heartwell Park Friday evening, prompting a power outage in the area and a street closure for a few hours.
The suspect fled in a white Mercedes-Benz coupe, officials reported.
The man had been riding a bicycle across the northbound lanes of the Los Coyotes Diagonal when he was struck, police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.
The collision left JP Goods Bakery on Willow Street and Easy Avenue with at least a broken window and security gate and a partially destroyed corner column, according to photos of the scene.
The second crash was one mile away.
The collision at 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of Atherton Street and Studebaker Road resulted in one minor injury.
